Quadra Island and
Campbell River are very easy accessible
and considered as some of the best
sea kayak and whale watch destinations
in British Columbia. Almost in the
heart of Vancouver Island on the
Eastern side (Inside Passage) these
destinations can be reached by car,
plane and bus.
Quadra Island is one of the most
diverse islands on the coast, a
place of exceptional beauty. It
offers miles of beaches, 20 lakes,
a crystal clear ocean and more than
200 miles rainforest hiking and
mountain bike trails.
The Island is 410 skm in size, with
a population of only 3500 people,
most of them living in the southern
part of the island.
Quadra Island is a prime destination
for outdoor enthusiasts including
kayakers, hikers, mountain bikers,
divers, campers. Accommodation and
campsites are limited, it
is recommended to
reserve a room early.
Famous for its day- and alpine multi
day hiking, Strathcona Provincial
Park, the stunning waterfalls of
Elk Falls Provincial Park and the
Mount Washington Ski, hiking and
Mountain Bike areas are only minutes
away.
Quadra is the largest
of the Discovery Islands Group located
in the northern Strait of Georgia,
covered with lush rain forests and
more than 20 beautiful lakes in
the north. A large portion of the
island is protected as Provincial
Park.
There are 200 miles
of well developed hiking and mountain
bike trails and a shoreline with
emerald bays and lagoons.
Quadra Island is
rich in native history and has been
the home of native people for thousands
of years.
A visit to the famous Kwagiulth
Museum and the new carving centre
at Cape Mudge Village, where tourists
can watch great native artists carving
totem poles, is the perfect balance
to a day of paddling and hiking.
If you enjoy camping,
the beautiful waterfront campground,
$15-18 per night and tent, could
be something for you. You'll also
find numerous restaurants and shopping
facilities.
This island offers
pristine wilderness combined with
the comfort of modern civilization,
and a wonderful base for day excursions,
family vacations and exciting tours
for the adventure traveller.
