START PLANNING YOUR TRIP

There are many things to consider when planning a kayaking holiday. Once, you’ve chosen your adventure, finding out how to get here and what to pack are the first things to come to mind.

But there are other things to consider too in order to have the best kayaking holiday possible.  Here’s a few quick tips to help you plan out your vacation time so you spend less time organizing your trip and more time dreaming about your upcoming adventure.

GLAMPING VS. EXPEDITION

One of the most common questions we get is “Which Adventure Should I Choose?” Each of us has a different image of what makes kayak camping trips perfect. With several great kayaking holiday options, we can definitely help you find a trip that you will love.

GLAMPING. Wildcoast Glamping trips at Orca Camp include many creature comforts. This is roughing it the easy way. Each day you will head out kayaking in lightweight boats (not weighed down by camping gear) exploring the coastline. Your guides prepare and serve gourmet meals keep you full and your energy high. At night you retire to your spacious safari sleeping tents elevated on wood platforms (no sleeping on the ground). For even more comfort, camp includes a hot water shower and best of all, a wood-fired hot tub.

EXPEDITIONS. Wildcoast Expedition trips appeal to those looking for a little more of the traditional kayaking holiday adventure. Heading off to remote locations, your kayaks are loaded with everything you need to survive and thrive in the wilderness. You begin with packing your kayak with top quality gear and delicious gourmet food. Then you set out with your guides to explore new locations each day. Your guides prepare all meals and help you set up your tent if needed. No experience is required to join an expedition, but you will want a higher level of fitness.

LENGTH OF TRIP

If it was up to us, we’d spend all our time in the wilderness, but life gets in the way and we know you only have a fixed window of time to enjoy your adventure. Once you have determined how much time you have available you can narrow down your options.

Glamping Trips – all trips are a minimum of four days. You can increase the length of your wilderness experience with our seven day kayaking holiday packages that in addition to Orca Camp include time at wilderness resorts on Quadra Island and additional wilderness adventures on zodiacs or covered boats.

Expedition Trips – trips range from three to six days. If you are looking for a weekend getaway this is a perfect choice. Shorter trips explore the Discovery Islands, noted by National Geographic as a kayaker’s paradise and Desolation Sound, world renown for it’s remote beauty.

Day Tours – if you are only in the region for a day or two or you are unsure if you would like kayaking, a day tour is a perfect way to get out on the water. With both half-day and full-day tours, the amount of time is up to you.

WHERE WILL MY TRIP TAKE ME?

We are fortunate to live and operate in one of the world’s most beautiful locations. There’s a reason the British Columbia Tourism Association, Destination BC, chose the motto “Super, Natural, British Columbia”.

The nature in this area is spectacular and we take you into the heart of it.

All of our trips operate in the region between Quadra Island (where our shop is located) and Blackfish Sound on the edge of the Broughton Archipelago on northern Vancouver Island.

From the beauty of the towering mountains in Desolation Sound to the waters frequented by Orcas and Humpback Whales in Johnstone Strait, each and every kayaking holiday has spectacular nature and wildlife on offer.

SHOULD I ADD OTHER ACTIVITIES TO MY KAYAKING HOLIDAY?

This area has so much to offer, booking your kayaking holiday with Wildcoast can be just the beginning. If you have more time to spend in the region we have recommendations for several other activities in and around Quadra Island that you can add to your trip.

And to keep it simple, we let you add activities directly to your booking so all of your trip info is in one easy to find place.

WHERE SHOULD I STAY PRIOR TO MY TRIP?

Most of our trips include the first night accommodation at one of the beautiful resorts on Quadra Island. For those that don’t (4-Day Orca Camp and Explorer) you can find a list of places to stay on our Getting Here page.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GET TO WILDCOAST?

Depending on where you are coming from, you have several options on how to find us. Start with our Getting Here page and if you need additional information, Ask Val.

SHOULD I BUY TRIP INSURANCE?

Wildcoast Adventures standard cancellation and rebooking policies apply to all trips. Should you need to cancel outside of these parameters, you will need to contact your insurance company for reimbursement and the amount of your reimbursement will depend upon the insurance you purchased.

As part of planning your adventure with us, we strongly recommend you purchase “Cancel for any Reason” Travel Insurance (CFAR). Check out our FAQs for more information about trip insurance.
